FLY FISHING TRIP (2 GUESTS MAX):
You will love spending a day fly fishing on New Jersey's top trout streams with LHGS Fly Fishing guides, Justin Linteris or Matt Califano. Our river selection and your target species typically depends on skill level and/or river conditions. Our guides will instruct you on anything from basic casting fundamentals, to the art of proper fly presentation, all the way up to advanced drift techniques when tight-line Euro-Nymphing in fast water. Justin and Matt's passion for fly fishing is infectious and their ability to simplify, explain, and teach complex tactics to anglers in the simplest of forms makes every trip a valuable experience, regardless of skill level or experience. Meet Our Guides
Justin Linteris and Matt Califano - Our LHGS Fly Fishing guides share a special bond that makes them incredibly effective as a guide-team. Their relationship is simple - they are long-time best friends, fly fishing buddies, and both are fanatical diehards of the sport. The amount of time they spend together on the water can't be fabricated. Their varying styles, knowledge sharing, and team approach can't be duplicated. And their endless pursuit of new water and undiscovered fish consistently results in them doing incredible things on public trout waters in NJ.
Justin Linteris
Justin was born and raised in Northern New Jersey, giving him an intimate knowledge of the local lakes, rivers, and streams that have shaped his lifelong love of fishing. With a Master's degree in biology and years of experience as a college professor at William Paterson University, Justin brings a unique and high-level scientific understanding of aquatic ecosystems to every guided trip.
An Eagle Scout and a licensed boat captain, Justin combines his expertise with a commitment to safety and education, ensuring that every outing is as informative as it is enjoyable. With decades of fishing experience, Justin has perfected his techniques and is passionate about sharing them with others.
Since 2023, Justin has been a valued member of the Lake Hopatcong Guide Service team where he serves as a fly fishing guide and youth fishing camps counselor.
Fly tying is a passion of Justin's and all of his customers will be using his own, unique hand-tied flies. Likely due to his extensive education in biology, Justin has shown an extraordinary level of creativity and understanding of New Jersey's aquatic ecosystems while at his vise. And the results for him and his customers speak for themselves.
Matt "Matty C" Califano
Matt grew up on Lake Tamarack in Sussex County NJ; the last of a generation that was given a pole and told to "just be home before dark." Some of his earliest (and best) memories involved a fishing rod and following in the boot prints of his grandpa and dad, fishing the Delaware, Paulinskill, Flat Brook and Wallkill Rivers.
As an adolescent, Matt was inspired to pick up a fly rod by a very powerful emotion: anger. For anyone who has ever been frustrated watching trout after trout rise to flies, while they ignore every lure in your box, it is a painful but memorable experience. And it helped mold Matt's style and lifelong addiction to catching fish on a fly. His knowledge is endless and based on experience, not from a book. But his on-the-water instincts and ability to read and adapt in the moment are what makes Matt an elite fly fisherman and guide.
What started close to home became a passion that has taken him all over the world. Matt has been very fortunate to experience a flats slam in the Florida Keys, a backcountry slam in the Everglades, bull redfish in Homosassa and the Outer Banks, striped bass of the Hudson Bight, Coho salmon, trophy rainbow trout and dolly varden on the Kenai River in Alaska, yellowfin tuna, wahoo and mahi-mahi in the deep blue fathoms off Hawaii, sea-run brown trout of the Kennebec in Maine, wild rainbows and cutbows in the Gunnison River, wild browns in the headwaters of the Arkansas River in Colorado, monster rainbows of the San Juan River in New Mexico and even a few native, European browns in Ireland.
